Your Part in God’s Work – Christ’s Mission
God’s Work – Christ’s Mission depends on the field where you are. In this space, we focus on the field of the world. How do we participate in this work in the world and help other people participate effectively too?
This main field, the world, is subdivided into many smaller fields of work.
The family is one of the fields where God’s Work is carried out.
The profession is one of the fields where God’s Work is carried out.
Politics is one of the fields where God’s Work is carried out.
Economics is one of the fields where God’s Work is carried out.
Education is one of the fields where God’s Work is carried out.
Culture is one of the fields where God’s Work is carried out.
Indeed, there are many smaller fields.
In all of these, human dignity is central and must be upheld and protected.
Therefore, the carpenter is not important merely because she is a carpenter. The carpenter is important, and equal in dignity to the prime minister, because God intends to build part of the world through her.
The doctor is not important merely because she is a doctor. She is important because God intends to heal part of the world through her.
The mother is not important merely because she is a mother. She is important because God intends to form future persons through her.
Every person as well as every role/position we legitimately occupy is valuable.
In this space, we want to support your apostolate. This does not mean that we will teach you how to be a doctor or a lawyer; for obvious reasons, we cannot do that. We are supporting you in becoming the kind of professional through whom God can work effectively.
You will be encouraged to work hard, advance in your career, succeed in your business and build a strong marriage, not for vain glory, but because advancing in your field means that Christ has someone there whom the Holy Spirit can inspire to lead with wisdom, protect and nurture human dignity and life, and make Christ and the Church present in that place, even without Christ being named or the Church being mentioned.
The only person in the room who needs to be aware of this hidden reality is you. This is why we speak about being intentional.
We encourage you to live up to the responsibilities of your baptism and participate in God’s Work. In fact, we invite you to approach the following as God’s Work and to put your heart into doing it well for His glory:
educating the young,
healing the sick,
building businesses,
shaping culture,
governing nations,
creating beauty,
defending truth,
cultivating the earth,
serving the common good,
building a healthy marriage,
raising children.
Indeed, we are called to participate in what God is doing in creation.
The Church participates in that. The Christian participates in that. The family participates in that. The teacher participates in that. The carpenter participates in that. The doctor participates in that. The politician participates in that.
Every day, with every decision we make and every action we take, we can impact positively or negatively the building of the world. By exercising our apostolate intentionally, we can consciously choose to impact it positively.
