An emotion is not you!

We often say things like “I’m angry”, “I’m sad”, or “I’m happy” — as if the emotion were part of who we are.

But in reality, an emotion isn’t you: it’s a signal sent by your brain and your body to help you react to what’s happening around you.

Emotions are part of how the human body works, which is why feeling emotions — even negative ones — is not a bad thing.

However, letting our emotions take away our sense of judgement, even when they’re positive, or allowing them to control us, especially when they’re negative, is not a good thing.
