A Summary of Christifideles Laici

Why this document matters
In 1987, bishops from around the world gathered for a Synod on the laity.
They wanted to understand:
who the laity are,
what their mission is,
and how they can live that mission in a rapidly changing world.
John Paul II took their reflections and shaped them into Christifideles Laici (1988).
It became a very important post‑conciliar document on the lay apostolate — a kind of roadmap for lay people living their vocation in the world.
It is practical, hopeful, and deeply rooted in the dignity of baptism.
