A summary on the Lay Apostolate in Lumen Gentium
The vocation and mission of the laity (LG 30–38)
PAGE 6
This is one of the key teachings of Lumen Gentium.
The Council says the laity have a special responsibility for ordering temporal affairs according to God’s plan— meaning:
culture,
society,
economics,
politics,
education,
and all the structures that shape human life.
It says the laity are called to illuminate and organise these affairs in such a way that they may always be effected according to Christ.
This is the heart of your apostolate: bringing Christ into the world not by withdrawing from it, but by engaging it with faith, hope and charity.
