The vocation and mission of the laity (LG 30–38)

PAGE 5

The Council insists that holiness is not reserved for priests or religious.

Holiness is the call of every baptised person.

And for the laity, holiness grows in:

  • the home,

  • the workplace,

  • friendships,

  • decisions,

  • responsibilities,

  • and the ordinary rhythm of life.

Your apostolate begins right where you are.

The Council in paragraph 40 states that:

All the faithful of Christ of whatever rank or status, are called to the fullness of the Christian life and to the perfection of charity.

Your apostolate is not first about doing. It is about being — being rooted in Christ, being faithful to grace, being open to the Holy Spirit. Holiness – according to the Holy Spirit and not according to the world - is what makes your mission fruitful.
